An ideal holiday base for hiking, climbing, cycling,
canoeing, excursions to nearby Switzerland, Burgundy...
Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne (altitude: 367 m, population: 130) is
situated in beautiful countryside
close to the Doubs/Jura
border, at the head of a valley and largely surrounded by forested hills.
Local attractions include a spectacular waterfall at the
source of the river Lison (just a short walk from the house),
the Taillanderie museum of rural industry, cave systems and hiking routes.
There is something for everyone, from the casual walker to experienced rock-climbers and
speleologists.
Local amenities
The village is not served by public transport, so a car is
virtually essential.
A dairy across the road from the mairie sells excellent Comté and Morbier cheeses, made on the premises.
Farm-fresh milk is available around milking time.
A baker's van passes through the village every morning (listen out
for the sound of his horn!); a butcher visits twice a week and
there is a Saturday afternoon fruit & vegetable stall on the
dairy forecourt.
There is a letterbox (collections every weekday) and
coin-operated(!) payphones by the village hall and mairie.
Cellphone coverage can be variable on account of the terrain.
The Lison Accueil gîte d’étape rents sporting equipment (especially
climbing gear).
The nearest supermarket, pharmacy, bank, post office, etc.
are all a 15-minute drive away in Salins-les-Bains, Amancey or Levier.
